Alex Scott makes admission about England midfield battle

Alex Scott makes admission about England midfield battle Alex Scott has admitted that he needs to improve his game to establish himself in England’s midfield. Scott made his competitive debut for the Three Lions in Tuesday’s UEFA Nations League victory at Czechia, replacing Elliot Anderson in the 70th minute. The Bournemouth midfielder had previously been called up for the final 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania, but did not make an appearance. Scott faces stiff competition from Declan Rice, Elliot Anderson and Jude Bellingham for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s preferred midfield set-up. The 23-year-old has admitted that he still has work to do to reach the level of the three midfielders, but he is relishing the opportunity to learn from them “I’ve got quite a bit of work to do to get on their level,” he told the BBC. “I know Elliott pretty well from youth teams, we won the Euros together last year, and obviously Dec and Jude are two of the best players from England. “So I’m learning off them and speaking to them as much as possible. They’re great people as well, you can ask them about anything, they’ll help with everything you need on the pitch and off the pitch. “They’re great human beings, so being here and around them, there’s loads I can learn from them and what they’ve done and any advice they’ve got, of course, I’ll take it on board.” He offers ball-carrying ability and defensive work rate from midfield, qualities already possessed by Anderson, Rice and Bellingham. Scott needs to improve his attacking output to stand a better chance of getting into England’s starting XI. He has two goal involvements in the Premier League this season, two fewer than he did throughout last season, suggesting he is already improving offensively. Scott will be hoping to get his first England start in Saturday’s Nations League clash with Croatia.
