‘It’s not ideal, but it’s a good start – Jeglertz reacts to Manchester City’s draw with Real Madrid Manchester City head coach Andrée Jeglertz says that his side have had a solid start in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League, but they need to win games. The Cityzens were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Madrid at The Joie Stadium last night. They also drew with Bayern Munich on Matchday 1. When speaking to the media after last night’s draw, Manchester City boss Jeglertz spoke about a game of two halves. “I think the game has two phases,” Jeglertz said. “I think first half we struggled, both with defending [and attacking]. They played through us a couple of times and we were too far away. I also think that we gave the ball away a little bit easy, struggled to get out of a high press. “First half wasn’t what we wanted, second half was much better, we were more aggressive, more determined  We were good in the second half, but we would like to do better first [half]. Reflecting on back-to-back draws in Europe, Jeglertz highlighted his side’s key learnings. He said “We learn a lot about playing these games and we know there are tough games. We definitely are here to go as far as we can in this tournament, but we also know that if you are a little bit late in the duel, if you lose the ball in not ideal situations, the opponents will punish you in a different way. That’s definitely what we’ve seen in this one, it could be in the other game too, so we definitely need to be a little bit sharper.” With two points on the board, Jeglertz is relatively happy with Manchester City’s start to their UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign, but says that The Cityzens need to deliver the complete performance. He said “We’ve played two teams that are definitely on a very high level, but I think that if you want to go far in this tournament, you also need to win these games. We didn’t lose, we have two points; one away against Bayern and here. We have done two good halves, one good there [in Germany] and we’re still looking to get 90 minutes where we really feel like we can do a great game. “It’s an okay start of Champions League, it’s not ideal, but it’s a good start. We are in a tournament now and we know what is needed from us in the rest of the term.” Manchester City are next in action on Sunday when they face Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.
