Report: Liverpool hold ‘serious interest’ in move for 17-year-old midfielder Liverpool Keep Michael Olise on Radar as Bayern Contract Talks Loom Liverpool’s recruitment over the past two summers has carried a sense of considerable ambition. Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Bradley Barcola represent expensive investments in the club’s attacking future, yet there remains one obvious question for those planning what comes next. Who ultimately owns the right flank? Mohamed Salah’s departure removed one of the great certainties of Liverpool’s modern era. Barcola offers speed, invention and goals, although his natural preference is to attack from the left. Finding a player capable of providing similar quality from the opposite side therefore remains an understandable priority. According to SportBild , Michael Olise remains firmly on Liverpool’s radar ahead of 2027. Liverpool Interest in Michael Olise Remains Olise would represent an altogether different level of investment from some of the other names associated with Liverpool. Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh attracted interest towards the end of the summer transfer window, with both reportedly receptive to the possibility of moving to Anfield. Minteh, in particular, continues to be linked with Liverpool. Photo: IMAGO Olise, though, has developed into one of Bayern Munich’s defining attacking players. At 24, he also fits comfortably within the age profile Liverpool have generally targeted when committing substantial transfer fees. Recent deals for Wirtz, Isak and Barcola have demonstrated that the club will spend beyond £100million when the recruitment department believes the player warrants it. Bayern Face Important Contract Decision Any Liverpool move would inevitably depend upon developments in Munich. SportBild reports that Bayern are preparing to begin preliminary discussions with Olise over extending his contract until 2032. The German champions are prepared to make him one of their highest earners, although negotiations may prove complicated. One significant issue concerns a potential release clause. Olise reportedly wants such a provision included in any new agreement, similar to the mechanism which helped facilitate his move from Crystal Palace to Bayern. Bayern would prefer to avoid it. Their position is understandable. Release clauses reduce control, particularly when Europe’s wealthiest clubs begin circling. Max Eberl Sets Timeline for Olise Talks Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has already made clear that the club does not want uncertainty continuing indefinitely. Speaking to SportBild in September, Eberl said: “We should know by next summer whether he’s inclined to extend his contract or not.” That timeline is particularly interesting from Liverpool’s perspective. Julian Ward and Liverpool’s recruitment team do not necessarily need Olise to become immediately available. They simply need the circumstances surrounding him to become clearer. If Olise extends without a realistic route out of Munich, Liverpool can look elsewhere. If negotiations stall, or a release clause becomes part of his new contract, the landscape changes considerably. Liverpool have already rebuilt much of their attack. The remaining challenge is ensuring that the right side possesses the same level of threat as the left. Olise would certainly provide it. Our View, Anfield Index Analysis There is something particularly intriguing about Liverpool continuing to monitor Olise because, from a supporter’s perspective, this feels like the sort of signing that could complete the attacking rebuild. Barcola arriving was hugely exciting, but he naturally wants to attack from the left. Wirtz can operate across several positions and Isak gives Liverpool an elite focal point. A specialist right-sided attacker still feels like the missing piece following Salah’s departure. Olise would be difficult to ignore. His Premier League experience removes some of the uncertainty that accompanies major overseas signings, while his development at Bayern has shown that he can thrive at a club where winning every week is expected. The contract situation makes this even more interesting. Liverpool should not be throwing ridiculous money at Bayern simply because Olise is an attractive name. However, if he insists upon a release clause and that clause creates a realistic opportunity in 2027, Liverpool absolutely should be paying attention. There is also something encouraging about the calibre of player Liverpool are apparently monitoring. Wirtz, Isak and Barcola have already demonstrated the level at which the club is prepared to operate. Olise belongs in that company. For now, this is one to watch rather than one to expect. If those Bayern negotiations become difficult, however, Liverpool could suddenly find themselves looking at an opportunity that makes an enormous amount of sense.
