‘We will have to be strong again’ – Chelsea boss Bompastor mindful of West Ham’s threats
‘We will have to be strong again’ – Chelsea boss Bompastor mindful of West Ham’s threats Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor says that her side will need to put in another strong performance when they travel to West Ham United this weekend. The Blues travel to The Chigwell Construction Stadium to take on The Hammers in their latest Barclays Women’s Super League match. When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, Chelsea boss Bompastor highlighted the dangers that West Ham United could pose and said that her side must perform well. “They are a team that are strong and compact out of possession and they have individual players to hurt you in transition,” Bompastor said. “When they recover the ball, they have the speed upfront and technicality to hurt teams. “When we face most of the teams, that is how they can hurt us. From the beginning of the season, we have been the better team in terms of how we defend those moments in the game. We will have to be strong again against West Ham.” West Ham United have recorded good results against Tottenham Hotspur and London City Lionesses so far and Bompastor says that her side will go into the game with the same mentality as they had in their last league fixture. She said “Our mindset is to go into the game with a lot of desire. In terms of points, the West Ham game is the same as the Arsenal game. I’ve said to the players that both games are three points and we have to go into this game really prepared with the same energy, the same mindset and the same quality with and without the ball. “The main thing is that we need to be as good as possible regardless of the opponent and to approach games the same way. There are no easy teams in this league, we know how competitive it is. The biggest mistake we could make is think that this game will be an easy game for us.” Chelsea have recorded five consecutive clean sheets and Bompastor says that her defenders have fully understood what has been asked of them so far this season. She said “We’ve improved as a team a lot. Being together has been a key element of our success. Players having clarity on their roles on the pitch also helps a lot with doing things at 100-percent. I need to keep providing clarity to them on how to defend depending on the situations. I think the mentality and the mindset to not want to concede is as important as the tactical aspects.” Chelsea’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at West Ham United kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
