Barcelona midfielder confirms he is following Pedri’s fitness routine amid injury woes – “It will help me” Barcelona midfield star Gavi has had a difficult few seasons, with repeated injuries keeping him out of action for significant spells. The talented La Masia graduate is desperately looking for continuity on the pitch this season but is also exploring new ways to look after himself away from football. Gavi considering Pilates As quoted by Diario SPORT , Gavi discussed his life away from Barça during an interview with Men’s Health, opening up about his recovery from injury, how he switches off at home and the activities he is considering adding to his routine. “I’m looking into Pilates, which Pedri used to do some time ago,” Gavi said. “It would be good for me because, honestly, I get quite bored at home in the afternoons.” The 22-year-old described himself as someone who spends most of his free time at home. His dog Conan plays an important role in helping him disconnect. Gavi . He also revealed that he is trying English lessons. “I’m also trying English classes because I don’t know much.” Injuries have changed Gavi’s perspective Gavi spent almost a year recovering from the serious knee injury he suffered in 2023 before another problem with the same knee required meniscus surgery in September 2025, keeping him out for around five months. The midfielder admitted that the second setback was particularly difficult because it brought back the feeling of having fallen into the same situation again. He relied heavily on his family during those periods. “A psychologist is always useful. Whether you’re struggling or doing very well, it’s always going to be important,” Gavi explained. “I’ve never been to one, but I’d like to.” A different side to Gavi Barcelona supporters are accustomed to seeing an intense, confrontational Gavi once he enters the football pitch. Away from it, he seems far calmer and more relaxed. It is a completely different personality to what fans see on the pitch. Gavi faces immense competition in midfield. (Photo by Florencia Tan Jun/Getty Images) Gavi is facing a difficult battle for a starting berth in Hansi Flick’s team. There is immense competition for places at the moment. Pedri and Rodri are as good as they come in holding midfield, while Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez are waging a war of their own for the No. 10 role. Gavi’s route to minutes is in rotation with Pedri and Rodri, but he faces competition from Marc Bernal in the same position. More importantly, Frenkie de Jong is expected to return to action some time after the international break. What this means is that Gavi has to make every minute count on the pitch when given the chance, and it remains to be seen how he fares in the coming months.
