Everton Target €15m-Rated 17-Year-Old Winger: Should Moyes Walk Away?
Everton Target €15m-Rated 17-Year-Old Winger: Should Moyes Walk Away? Everton have joined Arsenal and Newcastle United in monitoring Granada youngster Owen Emeka, although a potential €15m deal raises questions about their recruitment priorities. Matteo Moretto, via the Sport Witness , reports that the 17-year-old winger has attracted attention after making his breakthrough into senior football in Spain, with several clubs tracking his progress. Emeka joined Granada’s academy in July 2024 after previously representing 26 de Febrero. His development gathered pace during 2025, when he earned promotion to Granada B before reaching the first team this year. The Spain Under-17 international has recorded one goal in six senior appearances, accumulating 262 minutes since his debut in August. He remained an unused substitute during Granada’s final league fixtures last season, but his recent progress has attracted interest from England. Everton, Arsenal and Newcastle monitor Owen Emeka’s progress Journalist Matteo Moretto discussed Emeka’s situation during an appearance on Radio Marca’s La Pizarra. He explained that several clubs had already attempted to attract the youngster before his latest breakthrough. Emeka renewed his Granada contract in April 2024, extending his agreement until 2031. Real Madrid previously explored a possible move, while other unnamed clubs presented offers before he decided to remain with the Spanish side. Moretto explained: “Last season he had offers from important clubs, but he refused to leave Granada and decided to renew. Real Madrid explored signing Emeka, but it didn’t happen.” The journalist subsequently identified Everton, Newcastle United and Arsenal as clubs following his development closely. “Everton, Newcastle, and Arsenal asked about him,” Moretto revealed. According to Nigerian outlet Soccernet, Emeka’s contract contains a €15m release clause. Transfermarkt currently values the teenager at €1m, highlighting the substantial difference between his estimated market value and the amount required to secure his services. Born in Málaga to a Spanish father and Nigerian mother, Emeka remains eligible to represent both countries internationally. However, none of his reported English suitors has converted their enquiries into formal offers. Should Everton spend €15m on Emeka under Moyes? LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND – SEPTEMBER 19: David Moyes, Manager of Everton, looks on as he inspects the pitch before the Premier League 2026/27 match between Everton and Ipswich Town at Hill Dickinson Stadium on September 19, 2026 in Liverpool, England. (Photo by Lewis Storey/Getty Images) Everton need to consider their immediate objectives before committing such a significant amount to an inexperienced winger. David Moyes enters the final year of his contract, and his priorities will centre on improving results and pushing the club towards European qualification. With Brennan Johnson and Tyrique George already providing options in wide positions, another teenage arrival could struggle for regular senior minutes. Emeka would probably require considerable development time, potentially beginning with Under-21 football. For Everton, €15m represents a substantial commitment to somebody with just six senior appearances. Arsenal and Newcastle might find that financial gamble easier to accommodate, given their different recruitment resources. My view is straightforward, and that is Moyes shouldn’t make this his priority. Everton should monitor Emeka, but their immediate transfer budget needs to address positions that can improve the starting eleven. If the recruitment department sees exceptional long-term potential, they can pursue the youngster independently. However, expecting Moyes to sacrifice funds for an unproven prospect during a contract year would be difficult to justify.
