Real Madrid join race to sign England international ahead of January transfer window – report Real Madrid were very proactive in the summer transfer window, especially when it came to signing new defenders. But the club failed to sign a centre-back, which has now proven to be a key concern for the team as it once again struggles for depth in central defence. With the January transfer window just around the corner, Real Madrid are looking to rectify their mistake and are actively monitoring several options on the market. Formerly of Liverpool, Quansah joined Bayer Leverkusen last summer for €35 million and has been quite successful in the Bundesliga so far. However, given his performances and long-term contract at Leverkusen, the Bundesliga giants are expected to demand a fortune for his services. There are even reports of Chelsea and Arsenal being rejected, even though they were willing to pay around €65 million for the defender. Real Madrid are counting on the Jude Bellingham factor, as the midfielder, who shone for England in this international break , is close friends with Quansah. Why Quansah could make sense for Real Madrid Quansah will be an expensive target for Real Madrid. (Photo by Mike Hewitt/Getty Images) Jarell Quansah could be an ideal target for Real Madrid, as he provides several qualities the club lack at the moment. Standing at 1.90m, he is an imposing presence at the heart of the backline and is quite strong in both physical and aerial duels, making him an ideal partner for someone like Dean Huijsen. Quansah is also adept at playing the ball out from the back and can occasionally operate as a right-back, if required. More importantly, the English international is just 23 and could prove to be a smart long-term investment for Los Blancos . Unfortunately, Bayer Leverkusen are aware of his talents and are not expected to let him go for cheap.
