Struggling Barcelona defender remains determined to stay despite Chelsea, Liverpool interest

Struggling Barcelona defender remains determined to stay despite Chelsea, Liverpool interest Alejandro Balde is one of the few Barcelona players who have struggled for form this season, even as his team continues to dominate Spain. Balde has featured in just 12 minutes of action this season and has fallen behind Xavi Espart and Joao Cancelo in the pecking order. Much like Jules Kounde, who has already accepted his fate in the team, Balde has been ruing his performances and poor form last season. As a result, the player has been linked with a move away from Barcelona, with various Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool interested in his services. This is despite the fact that clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with a move for the Spaniard this season. Barcelona, for their part, are ready to consider the defender’s sale in January, but they remain doubtful whether the player will be interested in at all. It must be noted that Balde’s contract at Barcelona doesn’t expire until 2028, potentially making him a liability if he continues to remain out of Hansi Flick’s plans. A key economic lever for Barcelona Will Balde leave Barcelona in January? (Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images) The Catalans will consider Balde’s sale as a key economic lever that could potentially help them bring in a new defender in January, given that the team lacks depth in central defence. The Catalans value the player at around €60 million, which is a signifant amount of sum that could go a long way in helping them not only boost revenue but also reduce a growing wage bill. Indeed, with Barcelona planning to soon announce the renewal of key players such as Raphinha, Marc Bernal and Xavi Espart, the sale of Balde could prove to be critical. For now, though, the player has not shown any desire to leave, although it will be interesting to see if that changes in the coming months.
