Report: Liverpool set to ignite battle for €65m-rated star

Report: Liverpool set to ignite battle for €65m-rated star Michael Kayode Emerges on Liverpool Radar as Brentford Hold Firm Brentford’s success in developing valuable young players has inevitably attracted attention from clubs higher up the Premier League, and Michael Kayode appears to be the latest name generating serious interest. The Italian defender has quickly increased his standing since arriving from Fiorentina in 2025. Liverpool are now among several clubs following his progress, with Caught Offside reporting that Kayode sits at the “top of their watchlist”. Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also credited with an interest, while Juventus and other Italian clubs are keeping themselves informed. There is currently no indication that Liverpool have approached Brentford or attempted to negotiate a transfer. What appears to be happening is the groundwork that often precedes a decision several months later. Kayode Rise Gives Brentford Major Asset Brentford paid €17.5 million to bring Kayode to England from Fiorentina. Little more than a year later, the financial landscape surrounding the defender looks considerably different. His performances in the Premier League have been accompanied by growing prominence with Italy. Kayode recently completed 90 minutes and found the net during Italy’s 4-1 Nations League victory against Turkey, adding another notable performance to a rapidly developing CV. His appeal is relatively straightforward. Kayode offers speed and physicality, competes strongly in defensive situations and possesses the athletic capacity to repeatedly advance down the right flank. At 22, clubs interested in him would also be purchasing potential alongside his current ability. Photo IMAGO January Deal Faces Significant Obstacles Liverpool’s interest should not necessarily be interpreted as evidence that a January offer is being prepared. Caught Offside describe the situation as being at the “monitoring and reporting” stage, with no official bid submitted and no direct discussions taking place. More importantly, Brentford have positioned themselves extremely well. Kayode signed a new six year contract in July, extending his commitment until June 2032. Manager Keith Andrews and the Brentford hierarchy reportedly have “no intention of selling him mid-season”. That gives Brentford considerable control. His estimated market value may currently sit at approximately €40 million, but reports suggest it would require somewhere between €60 million and €65 million to encourage serious consideration of a sale. Liverpool would therefore need to decide whether Kayode’s potential warrants paying a significant Premier League premium. Liverpool Planning Could Shape Future Move Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the report concerns Liverpool’s thinking at right back. Andoni Iraola inherited a squad containing several players capable of operating in that area, although the long term picture remains complicated by Conor Bradley’s recovery from a serious knee injury. Identifying Kayode does not automatically mean Liverpool have decided another right back must be signed. Recruitment departments maintain extensive lists for every position, particularly when players with the required age and physical profile become available. Kayode nevertheless represents an intriguing possibility. His Premier League experience reduces one element of uncertainty, while his development with Italy suggests his ceiling could be considerably higher than his current level. Liverpool’s challenge would be timing. Moving early could mean paying Brentford’s substantial valuation. Waiting until next summer could provide greater clarity over Liverpool’s requirements, while allowing Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle or Juventus additional time to strengthen their own interest. For now, Liverpool appear to be gathering information rather than preparing a transfer. Kayode’s performances over the coming months may determine whether that changes.
