Stats: Barcelona summer signing Dominik Livakovic endures nightmare international break with Croatia Barcelona goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic endured another difficult night with Croatia as England produced a ruthless 7-0 victory in their Nations League meeting. The result capped a miserable international break for Livakovic, who has now conceded 12 goals across Croatia’s first three matches. The Barcelona summer signing conceded once against the Czech Republic, four times against Spain and seven against England, although he has still made seven saves during that run. The result will not necessarily alter his standing with Croatia, where he remains the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper despite the change in the dugout following the World Cup. For Barcelona, though, his performances come at an interesting time. Livakovic concedes seven against England England had effectively settled the contest before half-time, scoring four times in a dominant opening 45 minutes. Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Barcelona winger Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka all found the net as Croatia struggled to contain England’s attacking movement. The second half brought three more goals, with Kane, Saka and Morgan Rogers adding to Croatia’s misery. Livakovic managed three saves on the night, but there was little the Barcelona goalkeeper could do to prevent England from running riot. Across his three Nations League appearances, the numbers make for grim reading: 12 goals conceded from 19 shots on target, alongside seven saves. Barcelona may need Livakovic against Getafe Livakovic’s international struggles come with his Barcelona future role suddenly becoming more relevant. He made his Barça debut against Sevilla and could be called upon again when Hansi Flick’s side faces Getafe if Joan Garcia fails to recover from his knee discomfort . (Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images) Garcia’s fitness remains the key factor in that decision. If he is unavailable, Livakovic would have the chance to make another appearance for his new club immediately after a testing spell with Croatia. That gives the Croatian goalkeeper little time to dwell on the England defeat. He will also have Spain waiting for him again on Tuesday, giving Livakovic another demanding test before returning to Barcelona. Livakovic needs a response before returning to Barça The international break has undoubtedly been harsh on Livakovic, but the Croatia numbers should also be viewed in context. Conceding seven against England is a collective defensive failure rather than a reflection of one goalkeeper alone. For Barcelona, the more important question will be how he responds when he returns to club football.
