Port Vale appoint Moore as sporting director

Micky Moore will take responsibility for Vale's recruitment, scouting, player development "and the wider football department" [Getty Images] Port Vale have announced the appointment of Micky Moore as sporting director. Moore was previously director of football at fellow League Two side Shrewsbury Town, but left last summer following two-and-a-half years in the role. Vale - who were relegated from League One last season - are currently 23rd in the fourth tier, with Jon Brady's side having taken only five points from seven league games so far in 2026-27. "Vale are a big club with big potential and I know from my many visits to Vale Park just how passionate the fans are here." Moore told the club website. Prior to his spell at Shrewsbury, Moore spent four-and-a-half years with Cheltenham Town, where he became director of football after initially joining the club in a recruitment capacity. During his time at Whaddon Road, Cheltenham secured promotion from League Two as champions in 2020-21 before achieving their highest-ever league finish the following season in League One. Moore said: "I went in at Cheltenham when they were in a similar position; we had two seasons in League Two, finishing fourth and winning the title, so I know the challenge ahead of us and it's one I'm excited by. "I'm really looking forward to meeting the staff, players and everyone connected with the club." Vale's chief executive office, Matt Hancock, said Moore would have "the freedom to look properly at the whole football operation." He added: "His job is to assess where we are, identify where we can improve and lead the development of a football operation that is consistent and sustainable." All the latest Port Vale news
