Walmsley hopeful Grand Final role leads to new club
Departing Wakefield Trinity winger Lachlan Walmsley is hopeful his starring role in their Grand Final win over Warrington Wolves can help him pick up a new team. Trinity confirmed last month the 28-year-old Australia-born Scotland international would be leaving at the end of his contract this winter. Walmsley's flick pass sent Cameron Scott over for Wakefield's first try as they claimed the Super League title for the first time. "Hopefully there's a few clubs out there that are interested," he told BBC Radio Leeds. "Whatever will be will be. If I had a good game and there's clubs out there that want me but if not then it is what it is. "I'll leave it in God's hands." Walmsley joined Trinity in the Championship for the 2024 season and scored 47 tries in 61 appearances. His parents travelled over at short notice from Australia for the showpiece and his father Simon said he had "tears in his eyes" after his son's assist for Trinity's first score, while his mother Jane called it "unique". "These are my two biggest supporters right here, I'm so grateful," the former Whitehaven and Halifax man said. "The love and support they have shown me over my whole career - to have them come across and be there just to support me, I can't think of anything better. "I wouldn't be here without them." 'Tough' to leave champions - centre Scott Scott is also among the players to be leaving Wakefield at the end of their triumphant season. The 26-year-old former Hull FC centre agreed a deal to rejoin hometown club Bradford Bulls in June. He acknowledged it was "tough" to move on after 23 tries in 55 games for Daryl Powell's side. "It's been the best two years of my career to date, hands down," Scott said. "I can't thank the club enough. (Owner) Matt Ellis, Powelly and all the staff, they've certainly got the best out of me. To finish it on a Grand Final is insane. "I was part of the first group to bring the title here and nobody can ever take that away from me. "As tough as it is, it's how the sport works but like I say, I've got a Grand Final ring on my finger and I'm pretty happy how it's turned out."
