Julian Ward given chance to fix Richard Hughes mistake at Liverpool
Julian Ward given chance to fix Richard Hughes mistake at Liverpool Julian Ward is Liverpool's new sporting director. The Englishman took over from Richard Hughes after the former Bournemouth man chose to take Al-Hilal up on their offer to become their sporting director. Hughes stayed with Liverpool throughout the summer and, although he spent over ยฃ150 million on new players , each of them seem to be finding their feet. Of the lot, Ronald Araujo has probably been the most transformative as he's helped Liverpool shore their defence up massively. However, with Hughes now gone, fans can start to look back at the choices he made which could end up bringing up some things for Ward to fix. And now, luckily for the Englishman, he's been handed a new opportunity to already rectify one of the mistakes that Hughes made. Liverpool are eyeing a move for Luka Vuskovic again One of the main areas of Liverpool's team that they wanted to upgrade in the summer was their defence. And, as mentioned, they more than managed to do that with Araujo . Jeremy Jacquet has also settled in nicely with the 20-year-old already looking like a massive upgrade on Ibrahima Konate . However, with Virgil van Dijk's future still undecided, the rumour mill has continued to turn with many different defenders being linked with an Anfield switch. And, while some feel more likely than others, one of Liverpool's old flames seems to have been lit with FussballNews now sharing that the Anfield outfit are looking to sign Luka Vuskovic again. "Luka Vuskovic is a very special talent in central defense, which was already evident during his loan spell at Hamburger SV. And it's even more apparent now that he's no longer playing in Hamburg," they wrote . "The 19-year-old Croatian central defender, who moved from Tottenham to Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer, remains at the top of the wish lists of top Premier League clubs and top European clubs. "According to information from football-news, the imposing and physically strong defender continues to be closely monitored by Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Atlรฉtico Madrid. "Tottenham, who sold Vuskovic in the summer, also have him on their radar." Liverpool signing Luka Vuskovic would be an unreal bit of business for them Liverpool's defence is fairly solid at the moment, but, should Van Dijk leave, they're going to have a massive problem. The 35-year-old may be in the twilight stages of his career but, he's still their captain. And, even though the Reds see Jacquet as one of the best young defenders in the world , Vuskovic would be an unreal partner for him. Each of them have been setting the Premier League alight with their performances this season and, although the Croatian would probably cost Liverpool a hefty chunk of change, he'd be worth every penny. It would also start Ward's era off at Liverpool with a bang and would help him get the fans on his side as, even though Liverpool had the chance to sign Vuskovic in the summer , they never took the opportunity.
