Bayern reach breakthrough in contract negotiations with Harry Kane over a new deal

Bayern reach breakthrough in contract negotiations with Harry Kane over a new deal Bayern Munich have reached a breakthrough in negotiations with Harry Kane over a new contract. The striker is edging closer to committing his future to the Bundesliga giants. According to Florian Plettenberg , an agreement has been reached in principle between the two parties, with talks now entering the final stage. Bayern are planning to tie Kane down until 2029, although the remaining details of the agreement still need to be finalised. Kane’s current contract was due to expire this summer, putting several of Europe’s biggest clubs on alert. Barcelona had reportedly been monitoring the England captain, but the Catalan giants now look set to miss out on one of the leading candidates for the 2026 Ballon d’Or . The 33-year-old has been in extraordinary form since joining Bayern, scoring 73 goals for club and country during the 2025/26 campaign. He also helped England reach the World Cup semi-finals while claiming his third consecutive Bundesliga Golden Boot, further strengthening his case for the game’s biggest individual prize. A Ballon d’Or triumph would make Kane the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001. The new contract will also end any immediate hopes Tottenham Hotspur supporters may have of seeing their former talisman return to north London. Kane made over 400 appearances for Spurs and remains the club’s all-time leading scorer. Many fans are still dreaming of a reunion that could see him challenge Alan Shearer’s Premier League record. England assistant coach Anthony Barry, who previously worked with Kane at Bayern, believes he is one of the best around. Barry recently claimed Kane is the best ball-striker he has ever coached, even putting him ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. Having also worked with Ronaldo during his time with Portugal, Barry’s assessment carries significant weight. Kane is now set to win his 125th England cap on Tuesday, drawing level with Peter Shilton’s record, before returning his attention to finalising his Bayern future.
