Andre Villas-Boas makes bold Jose Mourinho claim amid Real Madrid struggles

Andre Villas-Boas makes bold Jose Mourinho claim amid Real Madrid struggles After going the last two seasons without any major trophy, Real Madrid decided to bet on Jose Mourinho to put things right and put their team back on the winning track. Even though the Portuguese coach had not been at the summit of his career for some years, there was significant hope among the Merengue fans that he would be able to weed out some of the most glaring problems with their team. However, this optimism has waned to some extent after the first stretch of the new season. Los Blancos have particularly struggled playing away from home, and have already faced two defeats, against Real Betis and Atletico Madrid, which means they are six points behind the league leaders. These league leaders are none other than FC Barcelona, who have had a perfect start to the season, winning all of their eight games. It is clear that catching up with Hansi Flick’s team would be quite a tall order, even for Mourinho. However, some people who know the Portuguese coach closely are sure that he will end up succeeding at Real Madrid. This is particularly the case with the former Chelsea coach and the current president of Porto, Andre Villas-Boas. As Diario AS has reported, the Portuguese executive appeared in an interview with the Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport and highlighted Mourinho’s challenge at the Merengue club: “José Mourinho is still among the best coaches in the world; I always knew that. And now he is coaching the best club in the world. It is a shame that Barcelona are in this situation. He finds them at a great moment, just as when he left Inter. But these are the challenges Mourinho enjoys the most.” In fact, the Porto president was clear that: “Mourinho is the only coach capable of changing Real Madrid’s fortunes.” Andre Villas-Boas’ words would certainly be reassuring for Real Madrid fans who are seeing their team face another difficult season. Like in his first stint with the Merengue team, Jose Mourinho will have the task of stopping a Barcelona team that seems unstoppable, and it remains to be seen to what extent he will succeed in this endeavor.
