Spanish journalists launch scathing attack on Real Madrid star after latest controversies: ‘Who’s in charge?’ Kylian Mbappe has found himself at the centre of another debate at Real Madrid, with his activities during the international break drawing criticism from supporters and Spanish journalists alike.  An injury forced the forward to leave the France squad early, but a social media video showing him riding a bicycle has sparked frustration among sections of the Madrid fanbase. The reaction has raised questions about how Mbappe is handling his recovery and whether Real Madrid are doing enough to manage a situation that could become uncomfortable ahead of a crucial La Liga fixture against Villarreal. Mbappe’s injury break sparks frustration As such, some fans believe the France international should have prioritised his recovery and returned to Valdebebas rather than remain in France.  As reported before, Mbappe only returned to Madrid on October 5 , adding to the criticism surrounding his conduct during the international break. The debate has also exposed several concerns about discipline and leadership at the Santiago Bernabeu.  Speaking on SER , journalist Gonzalo Alvarez questioned the club’s current direction, drawing comparisons with previous periods of uncertainty. “I’m remembering those feelings, the feeling of not knowing who’s in charge.” Alvarez also questioned the management structure under Jose Mourinho, arguing that the Portuguese coach could ultimately pay the price if results and performances fail to improve.   “We were told that with Mourinho, order had returned and that everyone respected him, but it reminds me of the Arbeloa era. Real Madrid is the same, or even worse.” Villarreal clash could put Mbappe under the spotlight The timing of the controversy is significant, with Real Madrid preparing to face Villarreal in La Liga this weekend.  According to Cadena SER journalist Antonio Romero, the atmosphere around the French forward could turn hostile if he fails to deliver on the pitch. “There’s a growing tension at the Bernabeu that has intensified during this break. If Mbappe doesn’t have a good game against Villarreal, he’ll be booed again.” Romero further points to what he sees as a lack of accountability within the club.
