Julian Alvarez considering new agent after failed Barcelona transfer

Julian Alvarez considering new agent after failed Barcelona transfer Julian Alvarez is considering appointing a new agent after his proposed summer move from Atletico Madrid to Barcelona failed to materialise. The Argentina international has been without formal representation for several weeks after ending his long-standing relationship with Fernando Hidalgo, according to AS . Hidalgo had helped manage Alvarez’s career for almost a decade, including his moves from River Plate to Manchester City and subsequently Atletico. The 26-year-old’s father, Gustavo Alvarez, is now reportedly taking a leading role in selecting his son’s next representation. An Argentine agency associated with former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore is currently considered the leading candidate, with negotiations said to be advanced but awaiting a final agreement. Pastore has moved into player representation since retiring and already works with Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez. The potential change follows a difficult summer surrounding Alvarez’s future at Atletico. Barcelona pursued the forward as a major attacking target, with sporting director Deco holding discussions with Hidalgo as the Catalan club explored a deal. Atletico consistently resisted those approaches and eventually issued an official statement declaring there would be no negotiations with Barcelona over Alvarez. Chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin had previously insisted Atletico would reject even offers worth €100 million, €150m or €200m because of their determination to retain the striker. Barcelona have since moved on, with Deco saying in September that Alvarez was “in the past” after Atletico made clear that they would not sell . Alvarez therefore remained in Madrid, where he is contracted until June 2030 after joining from Manchester City in 2024. His start to the new campaign has been difficult, with the forward failing to score across Atletico’s opening seven La Liga fixtures and their first Champions League match. He has nevertheless recently found the net while representing Argentina, offering encouragement as he looks to rediscover his best form when club football resumes. A new representative could now mark another step towards drawing a line under the uncertainty of the summer. For the moment, however, Alvarez remains an Atletico player with almost four years left on his contract, while any agreement with new representation is still to be formally completed.
