Jude Bellingham hails Harry Kane as ‘best England player to have worn the shirt’
Jude Bellingham has described England captain Harry Kane as “the best player to have worn the shirt” after he produced another sterling performance on a historic night. Kane equalled Peter Shilton ’s record for the most appearances for the Three Lions when he was named in the starting line-up for the Nations League game against the Czech Republic on Tuesday night. As he so often is Kane was the lynchpin of the England team at Wembley, scoring a brace and registering an assist, the latter as Vladimir Coufal poked his cross into his own net, on his 125th cap. Afterwards his teammate Bellingham and manager were quick to lavish praise on the striker. Bellingham told ITV: “I can only talk from my perspective and first and foremost he is an unbelievable human being. As a captain, as a man, he looks after every single person. He's the one to take responsibility off the pitch. “And on the pitch he's the best England player to have worn the shirt. It's an honour to play with him. “He's playing at a level that is unmatched. He's scoring goals for fun, he's dropping deep and playing passes in behind and contributing, making tackles and everything. He's only getting better.” Manager Thomas Tuchel , when asked to comment on Kane’s performance, replied with a smile: “It's what he does. I don’t take it for granted. “He is just exceptional every single match. It’s difficult to find words for him.” Kane was substituted late on to a standing ovation from the Wembley crowd and replaced by Leeds forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin as England saw out a routine 3-0 win. The result follows a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture in Prague as well as a 7-0 demolition job of Croatia away to leave Tuchel’s side second in Group A3, behind World Cup winners Spain, who inflicted a 3-2 defeat on England in the opening game of this international window. Tuesday night’s win leaves England only needing to avoid an 8-0 defeat to Croatia at home in the November international break in order to seal their spot in the Nations League quarter-finals in March, with Spain having already secured their berth.
