Schalke 04 hoping to strike release clause in head coach Miron Muslic’s contract

Schalke 04 hoping to strike release clause in head coach Miron Muslic’s contract FC Schalke 04 are reportedly preparing to open fresh contract talks with head coach Miron Muslic as the Bundesliga club seeks to remove a release clause from his current deal. According to Sport Bild , Muslic’s contract contains an exit clause that can be activated next summer for a fee believed to lie somewhere between €5m and €8m. Schalke now want that clause struck as part of another extension. The 44-year-old only prolonged his contract through 2028 following Schalke’s promotion back to the Bundesliga in May, but discussions over an even longer agreement are reportedly already being planned for the beginning of next year. A new deal through either 2029 or 2030 is said to be under consideration. Schalke seek long-term stability with Muslic The renewed push reflects how dramatically Muslic’s standing in Gelsenkirchen has changed. What began as another attempt to stabilize a club notorious for rapid coaching turnover has developed into Schalke’s most successful coaching tenure in many years. Muslic has overseen 41 competitive matches, recording 24 victories, nine draws and eight defeats. At 494 days in charge, he is also Schalke’s longest-serving head coach for some time. Domenico Tedesco remains the most recent coach to have lasted longer, having spent 621 days and 75 matches on the touchline. Promotion naturally strengthened Muslic’s position further. Schalke followed their return to the Bundesliga by extending his deal through 2028, yet the reported release clause leaves the club exposed should another side attempt to lure him away next summer. Muslic reportedly open to another extension Schalke’s interest does not appear to be one-sided. Sport Bild reports that Muslic can also imagine extending his stay and does not consider his work at the club complete. The Bosnian-Austrian coach still harbors longer-term ambitions beyond Gelsenkirchen, including the possibility of one day coaching the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. For the immediate future, however, Schalke appear determined to retain the coach responsible for leading them back into Germany’s top flight. GGFN  |  Peter Weis
