Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images Arsenal have confirmed that Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract, extending his stay after leading the club to the Premier League title in May. Arteta became only the eighth Arsenal manager to win a league title when he lifted the trophy in May, adding another major achievement to a tenure that has also included an FA Cup , a Champions League final and four successive top-two finishes in the Premier League. Not bad for a man in his first managerial position. Those achievements have already placed him among the most successful managers in the club’s history, and Arsenal have now, as expected, tied him to the club for the foreseeable future. Arteta said : “It’s a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal. This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel, and I have a great sense of privilege that our journey together will continue. “We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together. I’m extremely grateful to Stan and Josh for their trust and support, and feel honoured to be leading this club through such a special period in its 140-year history. “This is such a proud moment for me and my family. I feel the love and respect from our fantastic supporters, and they have mine – and ours – in return.” Arsenal have also been working to secure the futures of Arteta’s staff during the international break. Daily Cannon understands that Andrea Berta has been leading negotiations with set-piece coach Nicolas Jover over a new contract, with the club keen to extend the deals of Arteta’s assistants. Arteta’s agreement therefore appears to be part of a broader attempt to retain the coaching structure that has helped deliver Arsenal’s recent success.
