Barcelona pay homage to legendary forward Pedro Rodriguez after his retirement: ‘Always a part of our story’ Pedro Rodriguez has officially called time on one of the most decorated careers in modern football, bringing an end to a journey that took him from Barcelona’s academy to the very top of the game. The former Barcelona forward announced his retirement at the age of 39 after his contract with Lazio expired.  In an emotional farewell message, Pedro looked back on the moment his professional story began and thanked the people and clubs who shaped a career that produced more than 900 appearances and over 200 goals. Pedro Rodriguez retirement: Barcelona legend closes the book Pedro chose to begin his farewell by returning to the moment that changed his life. Reflecting on his Barcelona debut against Murcia on January 12, 2008, he wrote, “Even today I remember the noise, thousands of people in the stands and a 20-year-old kid waiting on the sidelines.  “That day I entered a football pitch and opened the door to another life.” That appearance came under Pep Guardiola, who had already worked with Pedro at Barcelona B.  What followed was a remarkable rise into the first team and a place in one of the most dominant sides football has seen. Pedro was not just another academy graduate who made the step up. He became a key part of Guardiola’s Barcelona, contributing goals, movement and relentless work across a trophy-laden period. Pedro leaves behind a strong legacy Pedro finishes his career with more than 900 official appearances and more than 200 goals, while his honours list reflects the extraordinary teams he played for. Three Champions League titles and five La Liga crowns headline his Barcelona achievements, while he also won the Premier League and FA Cup with Chelsea.  His career included three UEFA Super Cups, a Europa League, two Club World Cups, three Copa del Rey and four Spanish Super Cups. Internationally, Pedro reached the summit with Spain, winning Euro 2012 and the 2010 World Cup. Barcelona were quick to pay tribute to their former forward, recognising the lasting impact he made at the club. “You will always be a part of our story. Thank you for everything you have given to football and for all the moments you have given us.  “We wish you all the best in this new chapter,” the club wrote. Few players can claim to have collected almost every major honour available while playing such an important role in Barcelona’s golden generation. Pedro can.  His retirement closes a remarkable chapter, but his place in the club’s history is secure.
