Marseille sporting director denies Bruno Genesio resignation reports
Marseille sporting director denies Bruno Genesio resignation reports As Olympique de Marseille have slipped further and further into crisis, doubts around Bruno Genesio’s future at the club have increased. There is no prospect of OM willingly parting ways with their manager, but Genesio’s desire to continue has been called into question. It was only a month after taking charge of his first official game as Marseille manager that he had to deny that he would resign. It comes amid a poor start to the season, with the club losing five of their first six games in all competitions and sitting second-from-bottom of Ligue 1. That start comes in the context of a financial crisis that has meant that OM’s squad this season is significantly weaker than the one that finished the last. Speaking on La Chaine L’Équipe, journalist Loic Tanzi said that “it would be a big surprise if Genesio is still there at Christmas” in late September. However, in an interview with L’Équipe , sporting director Grégory Lorenzi has denied reports of frictions and an imminent resignation. “ We can understand that he is annoyed because he feels as though there are some good things in what [the team] is producing. There is frustration, but that doesn’t mean that this friction internally. The manager has signed until 2028. We are looking ahead with Bruno and, quite simply, it isn’t a topic,” said Lorenzi.
