Liverpool closing in on record-breaking transfer
Liverpool closing in on record-breaking transfer Julian Ward is one step closer to pulling off a record-breaking transfer. The Liverpool sporting director has been a busy man since taking the reins back. Ward's already preparing Liverpool for the next phase in their evolution under Andoni Iraola. That involves making plans for the January transfer window, where Liverpool are expected to be a lot busier in comparison to previous iterations of the winter period. Behind this lies the fact that Ward's predecessor Richard Hughes failed to address a lot of the problems and concerns within the squad - most notably he failed to sign a midfielder. Liverpool's priority will be bringing in an extra midfielder but they will also be looking at other areas of the pitch. And they could even be involved in a record-breaking transfer. Who Julian Ward will target in midfield There are two players on the club's radar at the moment. The first one is Alex Scott, who has the backing of Iraola having worked with him in the past. The England international has also been tracked by Liverpool for a long-time, and he is highly rated. He would also solve a growing homegrown issue within the squad. However, his recent injury puts a dent in Liverpool's hopes of signing him in January. Like Yankuba Minteh, the Reds may have to stall their plans. The other target is of course Lamine Camara, who draws great plaudits from the club's recruitment team, and who is ready to make a move to a bigger team. Liverpool are his favoured destination and it remains to be seen whether the Reds pull the trigger. Liverpool closing in on record transfer for Gilberto Mora Ward has been involved with a lot of youth transfers since returning to the club. Working behind the scenes, he played a key role in the signing of Lucca Brughmans and Ifeanyi Ndukwe among others. Now as sporting director it is expected he will follow a similar trend. And this opens up the door for Mexican wonderkid Gilberto Mora to join Liverpool. A move that the Reds appear to be closing in on. Mora has attracted a number of clubs. Some of the world's biggest teams are looking to sign him. However, according to local Mexican journalist David Faitelson speaking on TUDN as per Sport Witness , Liverpool are closing in on a move to sign Mora having made a bid in the region of £37m. This would make Mora the most expensive sale from the Mexican Liga MX of all time, beating Enner Valencia's previous transfer to West Ham United back in 2014. It would therefore be another record-breaking transfer that Liverpool are involved in. This is clearly one to watch.
