Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford set for court case after pleading guilty to driving offence
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford set for court case after pleading guilty to driving offence Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is facing a court hearing after allegedly driving without due care and attention in Cheshire, The Athletic reports. Pickford was driving a blue Lamborghini Urus through Knutsford when he allegedly ignored give way lines at a junction, forcing two other vehicles to brake suddenly to avoid a collision. Cheshire Police confirmed that the incident happened at around 3pm on April 14. Police said an officer witnessed the Lamborghini enter Toft Road from Princess Street without stopping at the give way markings. The officer, PC Cecil Ricardo, said the manoeuvre caused two vehicles to “slam on their brakes to avoid a collision” before Pickford continued along Toft Road. Police then followed the Lamborghini, activating their lights and sirens in an attempt to stop it. However, the officer said the police vehicle reached 50mph in a 30mph zone while trying to catch up with Pickford as the Lamborghini continued to pull away. The vehicle eventually stopped on Toft Road, where the driver identified himself as Pickford. The England international was cautioned and issued with a traffic offence report for driving without due care and attention. Pickford has since pleaded guilty in writing through the Single Justice Procedure. However, he has requested a court hearing to present his mitigation. The incident occurred just five days before Everton’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby. Pickford is still a key player for both club and country. He has racked up 365 appearances for Everton since joining the Toffees from Sunderland in 2017. The 32-year-old has also won 93 caps for England since making his debut in November 2017. Pickford has played a key role in England’s Nations League campaign, but he was initially left out of the team for their first two games of the international break. He reclaimed his spot in the 7-0 thrashing of Croatia and also kept a clean sheet against Czechia. Pickford’s case will be heard at Chester Magistrates’ Court on December 7, where the circumstances surrounding the driving offence and his mitigation will be considered.
