Brilliant news! Sensational midfielder finally returns to Liverpool after 20-month injury

Brilliant news! Sensational midfielder finally returns to Liverpool after 20-month injury Andoni Iraola's midfield options may now be boosted by a new addition. Liverpool have a real lack of depth in that midfield department at the moment. With Curtis Jones leaving for pastures new, Trey Nyoni has been tasked to step into a more senior role. This was always going to be the right move to make. Liverpool like to promote from within. It's one of the foundations of the club's philosophy and how the Reds operate. However, the truth is that even with the addition of Nyoni, Liverpool are a midfielder short. James McConnell has been included in first-team squads this season but the truth is that the young midfielder is probably better off forging a career path elsewhere. He's not quite Liverpool material yet. Nyoni is, and with time he could even become a Liverpool great. But for now no such pressure should be heaped on his shoulders. Liverpool's plans for their midfield in 2027 So, what do the Reds do next? The transfer window has passed. Liverpool have brought in an extra midfielder since with Patrik Farkas coming in on a free transfer and penning a professional contract with the Reds. For now, Liverpool have to operate with the options they have. Even if those options are dysfunctional. Dominik Szoboszlai is a perfect midfielder for Iraola's system. However, Ryan Gravenberch nor Alexis Mac Allister are the right options to play alongside him. Long-term the plan is for Liverpool to bring in a profile a bit more suited to what they need in that midfield. That profile is a more agile and defensive minded player. A target to keep an eye on is Lamine Camara. He is highly rated, and among the leading candidates for a January move. Liverpool midfield sensation Ryan Cowley returns There's more good news for Liverpool though. Talented midfielder Ryan Cowley who caught the eye for the U18s back in the 2024/25 season before suffering an injury and going through a very long recovery process returned to action for the Reds during the September international break. Cowley made an appearance in a friendly for Liverpool's U18 side against Robbie Fowler's Academy, which was his first game in 20-months. Having missed close to two years of action, the 18-year-old is now slowly making his comeback and has also been involved with the club's U21 team. Cowley was highly regarded before his injury by the club's academy coaches, and he is someone to keep a close eye on. We've seen underdog stories of sensations falling down and getting back-up again. The tenacious midfielder is exactly the type of player who Iraola will like, so given the club's lack of depth in that department there's an opportunity for him if he can grab it.
