SPFL pays out close to £50m in record year

[SNS] The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has paid clubs a record £49.6m in the past year. The league body has increased distributions by £7.6m, an 18% rise, with the bulk of money coming from broadcasting deals, licensing, match data and sponsorship. "In an increasingly competitive international rights market, these results are testament to the enduring attraction of the SPFL," said chief executive Neil Doncaster. "These are by far the strongest financial results in the SPFL's history, with turnover and total group distributions both surpassing the records set last year, and we are determined to maintain that momentum." Scottish Premiership crowds topped four million for the first time last season as the league continues to attract the highest per capita attendances in Europe. Figures published by Uefa showed approximately six million Scottish supporters watched men's matches during the 2025-26 campaign, with 900,000 in the lower leagues, 200,000 at domestic cup ties and 800,000 at European matches. "Successfully balancing broadcast revenue with match-day attendances and the unique atmosphere created within packed stadia is central to the SPFL being recognised widely as one of the most intense, compelling, and emotive sporting competitions in the world," added Doncaster.
