Brighton’s Olivier Boscagli: ‘We’re looking to win trophies.’ Brighton and Hove Albion defender Olivier Boscagli (28) has told L’Équipe that the club are “looking to win trophies” this season, whilst the defender also revealed that he harbours the ambition of receiving a maiden call-up to the France national team. Boscagli was on the fringes of the Brighton set-up last season, but in the opening weeks of the current campaign, he has played a starring role for the Seagulls. He attributes that to getting a full pre-season under his belt, as opposed to the previous summer when he got injured almost immediately after joining the Premier League club. Going into the international break, Brighton sat third in the league table, just five points behind league leaders Manchester City and just two behind second-placed Arsenal, who they have already beaten this season. There is a great deal of optimism at the AMEX Stadium and Boscagli has now revealed the club’s ambitions. “In pre-season, we said that we should do as well if not better than in the 2025/26 season (where Brighton finished eighth in the league). A European place is the objective,” revealed the defender. Boscagli on a France call-up: ‘I’m telling myself: ‘Why not me?” He added, “We are also looking to win trophies, like everyone, and the cup competitions are the shortest way to win one. The Europa Conference League will be firecely contested but we will have a word to say.” Boscagli was, for the first time, included in an extended France squad, although he ultimately did not make the final cut. Earning a place in Zinédine Zidane’s set-up remains an objective for the Monaco-born defender: “It is up to me to give the best of myslef and to hope of one day being called up. You can see that Zidane has given chances to a lot of new players , so, I’m telling myself: ‘Why not me?'” GFFN | Luke Entwistle
