Vincent Kompany to be honored with Bavarian Minister-President award
Vincent Kompany to be honored with Bavarian Minister-President award Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder will honour Vincent Kompany with a special award for his commitment to fighting racism. The Bavarian State Chancellery announced that the award will take place Saturday evening in Munich, after Bayern’s trip to Augsburg. In a press release, Söder said: “Vincent Kompany is an exceptional coach with a clear playing philosophy, strong leadership, and charisma both on and off the pitch. Under his leadership, FC Bayern Munich shines with attractive, attacking football. With trust and a clear stance, he molds excellent individual talents into a likeable and inspiring team every season. The former “FC Hollywood” has become a successful “FC Feelgood.” In the statement, Kompany’s “clear stance” on the issues of racism and exclusion was highlighted. “He has always made it clear that racism must never have a place in sports or in our society. His unequivocal plea for human dignity has impressed many people far beyond the world of sports. This makes Vincent Kompany not only a great figure in sports, but also a role model who takes responsibility for our society,” he added. In February of this year, Kompany attracted attention with an almost 12-minute-long statement against racism, after he was asked about the racist abuse against Real Madrid’s striker V inicius Junior in the UEFA Champions League game against Benfica. Franz Beckenbauer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Thomas Müller and Sepp Maier have previously won the award. GGFN | Brook Genene
