Exeter City investigate Cox's mystery illness

The 21-year-old was due to start Tuesday's Jersey Mike's Trophy game with Oxford United. But he had to withdraw from the side not long before kick-off and was seen getting medical help. "He has an allergic reaction to something. We're still investigating it, we're still supporting Sonny through it," Exeter City manager Matt Taylor told BBC Radio Devon. "It's not nice for him, let alone anyone else who's involved in that. "It also took him out of the team at the last minute, so it's affecting everyone, but it's affecting Sonny the most and the stress that's causing him and probably his family is not right." Cox has played six times for the Grecians this season, starting in the 2-1 loss at York City in August and the 0-0 draw with Walsall just over a month ago. The homegrown striker has played 114 times for the club since making his debut five years ago as a 16-year-old. Taylor says the club will do everything to try and solve the issue as soon as possible. "Myself as manager, us as a football club, we've got to find a solution and answer, we've got to do every investigation possible to stop it happening again for everyone's benefit," he added. "He's trained today, he's absolutely fine today, so the turnaround the following day shows there's no lasting effects. "But the stress of the situation and what he goes through during that time we all feel for Sonny at the moment and the footballing perspective is he missed another opportunity."
