Euro giants want Liverpool legend, Andoni Iraola must make a decision

Euro giants want Liverpool legend, Andoni Iraola must make a decision Andoni Iraola has got off to a decent start since being appointed as Liverpool's manager. The Spaniard took over from Arne Slot after the Dutchman failed to meet expectations in the 2025-26 season. During the 2026-27 summer transfer window, Iraola and Richard Hughes welcomed over £150 million worth of players through the Anfield doors and, while most have met expectations, some have failed to do so. However, this hasn't stopped Liverpool from being linked with a whole host of players as they always seem to be looking for ways to improve their ranks. But, since their non-homegrown quota of players is already filled, some are going to have to be moved on before any others can be brought in. This has led to many rumours emerging and now, some of the world's biggest clubs seem to be showing an interest in Liverpool's first-team squad. Real Madrid want to make a move for Virgil van Dijk In June 2027, there are seven Liverpool players who's contracts are set to expire. Some, such as Wataru Endo and Harvey Davies are very likely to leave but others, such as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson, still play major roles among the Reds' ranks. And, even though the Reds may have thought that they'd have moved on from the veteran duo by now, it's clear that, without them, Liverpool would be much worse off. This is why Liverpool's fans all believe that they should both get offered new deals. However, as per a fresh update from Football Insider , that may not end up being the case for Van Dijk. "Liverpool have not ruled out handing Van Dijk a new contract if he continues on his current form," they wrote. "That is despite renewed interest from Real Madrid, who could look to take advantage of the centre-back's situation to lure him away from Anfield when his current deal expires. "Liverpool have delayed making a decision about Van Dijk's future for now, but the high-profile interest from elsewhere and his impressive displays could now force their hand. "Liverpool are not planning to hold contract talks with Van Dijk until closer to the end of the season. "Amid concerns about his age and whether his performances could drop off in the near future, they will delay any decision and leave the door open for him to earn a new deal." Van Dijk has undoubtedly been one of Liverpool's best-ever signings . At the time, the £70 million that the Reds paid for him seemed rather steep, but, looking back at things now, it was the best money that they could have ever spent. The Liverpool captain has reached legendary status in the Red shirt and, without him among their ranks, the Anfield outfit would have been so much worse off. And, even though he'll be a month away from turning 36 by June 2027, he's still probably going to be one of Liverpool's best defenders. The fact that other players such as Ronald Araujo or Joe Gomez haven't replaced the towering Dutchman yet proves how good he actually is. And, since Van Dijk has just said that he wants to continue playing for the Netherlands until at least Euro 2028, he's probably still got at least another season or two where he wants to compete at the highest level possible. At the moment, keeping the centre-back around feels like a no-brainer for Iraola but, that could obviously change.
