Bolton squad belongs in Championship - Schumacher

Steven Schumacher has led Bolton Wanderers to three wins from eight Championship games this season [Getty Images] Bolton Wanderers have a squad which look capable of taking on the challenge of stepping up to Championship level, boss Steven Schumacher has said. Prior to the extended three-week international break, Bolton beat Norwich 4-3 at Carrow Road in a seven-goal thriller to earn a third win of the season. During the break, Bolton played a behind-closed-doors friendly against Motherwell at the Toughsheet Community Stadium and Schumacher has welcomed back a fully-fit squad ahead of the return to league action. "When you step up to it, there's two ways you can go about it. You can go and embrace the challenge and go and tackle it head on or you can run away from it and be fearful," he told BBC Radio Manchester. "Now, I don't think that can be said about our group. Not one player has gone on to the pitch and felt or looked like they don't belong at the level. "As long as that can continue, the better it will be for us because every game is a tough test." Schumacher happy with Bolton points tally Schumacher spent nine months with Stoke before he was sacked in September 2024 prior to joining Bolton. Despite his time with the Potters, he does not believe that will impact him or his side before they face each other on Saturday (15:00 BST). "It's just another game. I've been there and worked there before but that's irrelevant right now," he said. "I'm at a different club now and they've got a different manager so it's just a game that both teams will be desperate to sign play well in and get the result that we want."
