Maresca breaks silence on Man City charges ahead of Liverpool clash: ‘We don’t care about the noise’
Maresca breaks silence on Man City charges ahead of Liverpool clash: ‘We don’t care about the noise’ Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has insisted he and his players refuse to be distracted by the noise around the club’s financial charges ahead of Sunday’s huge clash with Liverpool. City return to Premier League action at Anfield on Sunday afternoon after a three-week international break, with the club’s financial case still dominating the headlines . However, Maresca says his squad are fully focused on what happens on the pitch and have complete faith in the club’s handling of the situation. “Personally I’m very calm, to be honest,” Maresca said (via Mancity.com ). “The club has been quite clear. We trust completely the club. “We understand the noise, but the focus for us is just what we can control, and we can control just the football side.” The City boss is keen to ensure the controversy does not derail a superb start to the campaign. His side have won all seven of their matches across the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup before the international break. Maresca revealed that he used the break to assess City’s performances and identify areas for improvement, but believes the squad are in excellent spirits ahead of two major tests. “The feeling is fantastic, to be honest. The players are excited for the next two games,” he added. “They know their profession, and they know that the noise is there, but they don’t care too much about the noise.” City face a difficult trip to Anfield before welcoming Paris Saint-Germain to the Etihad in the Champions League three days later. Maresca has also called for unity from the club’s supporters, players and hierarchy as City prepare for what could be a hostile atmosphere on Merseyside. “We need to be all together,” he said. “We need their passion and their voice, and hopefully at the end of the game we can all be happy.” City will be hoping to replicate last season’s dramatic 2-1 victory at Anfield as they look to maintain their perfect start. The Cityzens have won three of their last meetings with the Reds across all competitions.
