Hansi Flick closing in on historic Barcelona record with Getafe win in sight

Hansi Flick closing in on historic Barcelona record with Getafe win in sight Barcelona have a chance to turn their remarkable start to the LaLiga season into a place in the club’s history books when they host Getafe at Camp Nou.  Hansi Flick’s side have won all seven of their opening league matches, and another victory would equal Barcelona’s best-ever start to a LaLiga campaign. The current run has also put the Catalans six points ahead of Real Madrid, while their attacking numbers have made this start particularly impressive.  Notably, Barcelona have scored 31 goals in seven matches, averaging more than four per game. Flick can match Gerardo Martino’s record To put it in perspective, only one Barcelona team has previously won its first eight league matches, which was Gerardo Martino’s side in 2013-14.  Their perfect run ended when Osasuna held them to a goalless draw in the ninth round, before Athletic Bilbao handed them their first defeat in matchday 15. Martino’s team therefore remains the benchmark Flick’s players can now match. Real Madrid also managed eight consecutive victories at the start of the 1961-62 and 1987-88 seasons.  The Spanish record, however, belongs to Miguel Munoz’s Real Madrid side, who won their first nine matches in 1968-69. Flick’s Barcelona rewriting La Liga scoring record Barcelona’s seven wins have been accompanied by an extraordinary scoring rate.  They have beaten Racing Santander 7-0, while Elche, Rayo Vallecano and Valencia each suffered 5-0 defeats. Levante lost 4-0, and Sevilla were beaten 3-0. The current total of 31 goals after seven matches also surpasses the 29 scored by Barcelona in 1950-51 over the same opening period. The next target would be the record of 24 consecutive home victories achieved by Real Madrid across the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons. Getafe have yet to win away against Barcelona, giving Flick’s side another opportunity to extend their run.  With a historic league start and a significant home record on the line, Saturday’s match offers Barcelona a chance to strengthen their position in the title race and move closer to a place in La Liga history.
