🚨 BREAKING: Enzo Maresca questioned for the first time since Man City verdict

🚨 BREAKING: Enzo Maresca questioned for the first time since Man City verdict Enzo Maresca has insisted he has complete faith in Manchester City as the club continues to contest the findings of an independent commission into alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules. The City manager addressed the issue for the first time at a press conference on Friday, following the announcement of the commission's verdict during the international break. City have denied wrongdoing and are pursuing an appeal, with Maresca making clear that the ongoing process has not shaken his belief in the club or his decision to join them. "First of all, good morning. I understand the reason why most of you are here, but the only thing I can say is something that I already said: there is a process ongoing and in this moment I completely trust the club," Maresca said. "This is what I can say about that." The Italian, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's assistant at City, added that his faith in the people at the club was a major factor behind his decision to take the job. "I trust the club because I trust the people, this is the reason why I joined the club," he said. "Then there is not another club in the world where I would like to be. I am very happy, very proud, I said many times since day one." Maresca also rejected suggestions that City's previous achievements could be tarnished by the findings, pointing to his own experience of their historic treble-winning campaign in 2022/23. The 46-year-old was part of Guardiola's coaching staff during that season, when City won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. "Absolutely not," Maresca said when asked whether the verdict tainted those achievements. "The last time I was here was the treble season. I know the effort from the players, club, the manager at that time, Pep, so I know the effort that was needed to make that achievement." Maresca confirmed he had spoken to senior figures at City about the situation but suggested further discussion would be more appropriate once the appeal process had concluded. "I spoke with the club for sure, we all trust and probably the right moment to speak about that is when we are going to win this appeal," he said. City continue to maintain their position as the legal process moves forward, with the outcome of the appeal expected to be crucial in determining the consequences of the commission's findings. Manchester City face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
