Confirmed: Barcelona breakthrough academy talent renews until 2030 FC Barcelona’s plans for the present and future are taking shape, with the club officially confirming the renewal of one of its most promising young players, Xavi Espart. The Catalan club announced the new deal for the 19-year-old La Masia graduate, who is now contracted to Barcelona until June 2030. The versatile defender’s previous contract stood to expire in 2028, and the club have added two more seasons to the deal, while also handing him a significant pay raise corresponding to his new status as a first-team player. In addition, Espart will also see an increase in his release clause, with the club thus securing the teenage wonderkid’s long-term future. Espart joined La Masia in the summer of 2015 from UE Vilassar de Mar. Since then, he has progressed through the academy to become an important member of Barcelona’s first-team defence during the 2026/27 campaign. The Spain U21 international joined Hansi Flick’s first-team squad last season, making six appearances. It was during the summer pre-season, however, that he really caught the German coach’s attention. Although he can play on either side of the defence and in midfield, Espart has made a particular impression at left-back in the current season. His performances have even seen him move ahead of Alejandro Balde in the starting line-up, while he also competes with Joao Cancelo for a place in the team. The 2007-born player is part of a promising generation of academy graduates making their mark in the first team, alongside Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí and Marc Bernal. By securing Espart’s future until 2030, Barcelona have rewarded his rapid progress and reinforced their belief that he can remain an important part of the team for years to come.
