— Chelsea FC USA (@ChelseaFCinUSA) October 8, 2026 Huge 2026 crowds underline Denver’s status as a surging soccer hub On the club and international stage, Denver has a long and proud tradition. But in recent months things have gone to a whole new level. In April 2026 the Colorado Rapids, one of the 10 founding members of Major League Soccer, recorded the second-largest attendance in league history as 75,824 fans packed the Broncos' home stadium Empower Field when Lionel Messi and Inter Miami rolled into town and put on a show. Even better from field level.

— Major League Soccer (@MLS) April 18, 2026 The NWSL's newest team, Denver Summit FC, drew a record crowd for the league of over 63,000 at the same stadium just a few weeks earlier as USWNT captain Lindsey Heaps, a Denver area native, is their star. The Summit have also unveiled impressive plans to build a brand new stadium of their own at Santa Fe Yards, just a few miles from downtown, and it should be completed in the next few years. Denver is a soccer city and it is clearly in the ascendancy. A record-setting inaugural home match for Denver Summit: 63,004 fans ️

— National Women’s Soccer League (@NWSL) March 28, 2026 There have been multiple memorable national team games for the U.S. men's and women's teams over the years too, with one of the most famous games in USMNT history 'Snow Clasico' taking place at the home of the Colorado Rapids back in March 2013. The USMNT beat Costa Rica in a key World Cup qualifier with snow hammering down and epic scenes galore. It's been 12 years since the USMNT defeated Costa Rica in a frigid World Cup qualifier that was below freezing.
The conditions were such that Costa Rica protested the result.

The USWNT have never lost in the state of Colorado, winning 10 of their 11 games all-time. They have an 8-1-0 record in Colorado (including four wins from four at the Rapids' home stadium in Commerce City) and no state where they've played more than six games in boasts a better win percentage for the USMNT. Perhaps both the USWNT and USMNT should pencil in a few more games for Colorado in the coming months and years? It truly feels like the sky is the limit for soccer in the Mile High City, and this weekend will showcase that.
