The reports on the 29-year-old Scotsman are understood to have made an impression at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the club on the lookout for reinforcements in midfield. The former Manchester United star does not exactly fit the profile of a controlling midfielder, someone who can dictate the tempo from the centre, that Real Madrid are looking. Nonetheless, his contract situation seems to have put those at Valdebebas on alert. A special relationship with Mourinho McTominay is a player Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho knows well. The Portuguese coach handed the Scottish international his Manchester United debut at the age of 18 in 2017 and has continued to refer to him affectionately as “my boy”.
