Gateshead players hope to get paid quickly

Gateshead have lost 10 of their 12 league games this season [Getty Images] The players of troubled National League club Gateshead have issued a statement declaring that they hope that September's wages are soon paid. An agreement in principle has been reached for the sale of the club to Flacks Group, an American investment company, who specialise in taking over distressed companies and assets, subject to approval by the Independent Football Regulator. The proposed deal states that unpaid wages would be paid immediately, but as of Friday evening, the squad had received nothing. In a difficult period on and off the field, the Heed have lost six consecutive games and are bottom of the table, while manager Lee Cattermole was sacked earlier in October. Meanwhile, September's wages were also not paid. "Throughout this period, we have continued to train and play, risking injuries and our livelihoods out of love and respect for this club, for the staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes and above all for the supporters," the statement said. "Representing Gateshead FC is something we are proud of, and our commitment to the club, its supporters and the local community has not changed. "But we hope that you can all appreciate that no one can go to work for free when they have bills to pay and families to support."
