Stats: Joan Garcia and David Soria reveal how Barcelona and Getafe approach football differently Barcelona’s meeting with Getafe at the Spotify Camp Nou presents an intriguing battle between two contrasting styles, with goalkeepers Joan Garcia and David Soria offering a reflection of how the teams approach their football. Hansi Flick has warned that Getafe will be a difficult opponent as Barcelona begin a demanding October schedule .  The Catalans have been prolific in attack, but Raphinha’s absence leaves them without one of their most influential players against a side that has built its identity around defensive organisation. Both teams have conceded seven goals in La Liga, yet the similarities hardly end there.  Their approaches to building attacks, distributing possession and defending their goal reveal two very different footballing philosophies. Joan Garcia and David Soria reflect two contrasting styles Joan Garcia is expected to return in goal after recovering from the knee discomfort that ruled him out of Barcelona’s match against Sevilla before the international break.  Joan Garcia will return in goal for Barcelona. The distinction between the two goalkeepers comes in their distribution.  Soria has attempted 191 long passes in La Liga, more than any other player in the competition. Joan Garcia, by comparison, has attempted just 31, ranking 37th. Their pass completion figures show the difference further, as the Barcelona goalkeeper has completed 87% of his passes, while Soria’s rate stands at 50%. These numbers help us explain the demands placed on each goalkeeper.  Barcelona generally look to build through possession and short passing, while Getafe are far more comfortable bypassing midfield when the opportunity arises. Getafe’s direct football poses a challenge for Barcelona David Soria has played most long passes in La Liga this season. (Photo by Aitor Alcalde/Getty Images) Getafe frequently use long balls to reach their forwards quickly, prioritising direct progression over patient build-up.  That approach can be particularly useful against teams that press aggressively or commit players forward. Barcelona, meanwhile, usually prefer to advance through controlled possession.  However, Flick’s side can resort to longer passes when opponents disrupt their build-up with close man-marking, making Getafe’s approach a tactical challenge rather than simply a stylistic contrast. The goalkeepers’ statistics also offer insight into their defensive workloads. Soria has made 23 saves this season, compared with Joan Garcia’s 11.  The Getafe goalkeeper has a save percentage of 77%, slightly ahead of his Barcelona counterpart’s 69%.
