Robin Fellhauer jokes about Bundesliga record and hilarious couch mishap

Robin Fellhauer jokes about Bundesliga record and hilarious couch mishap FC Augsburg midfielder Robin Fellhauer was in a joking mood after scoring the fastest goal in Bundesliga history during Saturday afternoon’s 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich. The 28-year-old needed just 8.4 seconds to break a record previously shared by Karim Bellarabi and Kevin Volland, both of whom scored after nine seconds. “Yeah, they were very slow,” Fellhauer joked when asked about the two former record holders by Sky Germany . “But, all kidding aside, it’s indescribable to be a part of something so big. To be at the top is an indescribable feeling.” Fellhauer’s historic goal came courtesy of a remarkable mistake from Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. The visitors actually kicked off the match themselves, with Luis Díaz passing directly back to Neuer. The 40-year-old took a heavy touch before his attempted clearance struck the onrushing Fellhauer in the back. Bellarabi had previously established the nine-second record for Bayer Leverkusen against Borussia Dortmund in August 2014. Volland equalled it for Hoffenheim against Bayern almost exactly one year later. Fellhauer was even shown recorded congratulatory messages from both players during his post-match interview. “That’s very cool,” the new record holder responded. “I’m grateful to both of them.” Robin Fellhauer’s humor-filled Bundesliga life The occasion was especially meaningful for a player who had to wait until the age of 27 to make his Bundesliga debut. Fellhauer spent five years developing at Freiburg before moving to SV Elversberg in 2019. The Mannheim native subsequently spent six years in Saarland, helping the club climb from the Regionalliga through the 3. Liga and into the 2. Bundesliga. Augsburg signed the former Elversberg captain for a reported €700,000 in summer 2025. Despite arriving as a relative newcomer to top-flight football, Fellhauer went on to feature in all 34 Bundesliga fixtures during his debut campaign. In a particularly revealing interview with Kicker on September 30, Fellhauer admitted that he initially struggled to comprehend the quality of his new surroundings. “They’re really that good! It can’t be true, I can’t be that bad!” the midfielder recalled thinking after training alongside Augsburg’s established Bundesliga players. “When you’ve gone through all of that and eventually play in the Bundesliga, it’s just incredible.” Fellhauer also revealed that he still hasn’t entirely grown accustomed to being a Bundesliga regular. Despite featuring in every league match last season, the midfielder continues to inform his family whenever he makes the lineup. “I still write in the family group chat: ‘I’m playing today.’ With a laughing emoji,” Fellhauer explained. His willingness to adapt has proved equally important. As Get German Football News noted in our assessment of Augsburg’s 2025/26 campaign , Fellhauer established himself through tireless work, tactical versatility and a readiness to undertake unfamiliar assignments. The German midfielder has featured as a wing-back, defensive midfielder and attacking midfielder since arriving at Augsburg. He also credits additional work with a private video analyst for improving his attacking positioning and goalscoring instincts. Robin Fellhauer plans a quiet celebration and a return to the couch Despite entering the Bundesliga record books, Fellhauer had no elaborate celebration planned. “There’s not much more going on today,” the Augsburg midfielder explained. “My family is here to visit. We’re going to grab something to eat and then I’m going to stretch out on the couch.” That last remark carries an amusing connection to Fellhauer’s September interview. During the conversation, former Augsburg teammate and close friend Keven Schlotterbeck supplied Kicker ‘s reporters with a few embarrassing anecdotes about their time together. The two became close friends during their time at Freiburg and subsequently shared a home in Augsburg. Fellhauer revealed that they spent much of their spare time watching football, playing cards and generally talking nonsense. Schlotterbeck also brought up an unfortunate incident involving Fellhauer’s new gas grill. The midfielder had apparently experienced some difficulties getting it started, with a sudden burst of flame singeing off several of his eyelashes. When confronted with the story, Fellhauer was sufficiently puzzled by Schlotterbeck’s account that he actually phoned his former roommate during the interview to clarify precisely what had happened. And then there was the furniture. One anecdote concerned Fellhauer’s difficulties furnishing his apartment after moving to Augsburg. The midfielder had purchased a couch without properly measuring the available space. Unfortunately, the sofa was approximately 2.70 metres long, while the intended spot offered only two metres. Fellhauer initially had to position the oversized furniture awkwardly in the middle of the room before eventually purchasing a replacement. At least the Bundesliga’s newest record holder now has somewhere suitable to rest after making history. GGFN  |  Peter Weis
