Derby defeat 'one that got away' for Pompey
[BBC] [Getty Images] That was one that got away for Portsmouth. Even before Southampton went down to 10 men, Pompey had more than matched them but the difference in quality in the final third was stark. Southampton scored one and created the game's next two best chances - this despite being camped in their own half for much of the second spell. Portsmouth got in behind Southampton on numerous occasions but their overall decision-making in and around the box was poor. This was a great opportunity to get a positive result away at their major rivals and one they couldn't take. Pompey are not a bad team but their limitations are currently costing them. Nicolas Schmid deserves credit for the two excellent saves he made on his return. The number one shirt is his again.
