Watch: Vinicius’ furious reaction after Villarreal red card that could rule him out of El Clasico

Watch: Vinicius’ furious reaction after Villarreal red card that could rule him out of El Clasico Vinicius Jr. could face a suspension of up to four matches following his controversial red card against Villarreal, with his reaction to the dismissal potentially increasing the punishment.  The Real Madrid forward is already at risk of missing the 25 October El Clasico against Barcelona, although the final disciplinary decision has not yet been announced. Notably, the incident caused anger inside the Santiago Bernabeu after referee Isidro Diaz de Mera reviewed a potential act of violent conduct and sent off the Brazilian, disallowing his goal in the process.  According to the referee’s report, the case involves two separate incidents: pulling an opponent’s hair and his conduct after being dismissed. Vinicius Jr. red card: What the referee’s report says The incident occurred in the 71st minute, when Vinicius pulled Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba’s hair while the ball was in play.  Diaz de Mera initially allowed the game to continue, but VAR intervened and advised him to review the incident on the pitchside monitor. After watching the footage, the referee showed Vinicius a red card.  The decision prompted an immediate protest from the forward, who approached the official angrily as his teammates moved to prevent the confrontation from escalating. Notably, the likes of Federico Valverde, Arda Guler and Aurelien Tchouameni helped pull Vinicius away, while Antonio Rudiger positioned himself between the Brazilian and the referee.  Endrick subsequently left the bench to accompany his teammate towards the tunnel, helping ensure he did not return to continue protesting. Why Vinicius could face an additional suspension Vinicius’ protest was duly noted in the referee’s report. The report does not include specific insulting words, but the disciplinary committee could still examine whether his conduct amounts to unsporting behaviour, excessive protesting or disrespect towards the referee. Depending on how the incident is classified, Vinicius could face a further suspension of two, three or four matches.  The precise punishment will depend on the committee’s assessment rather than the initial reaction to the incident.
