Barcelona marquee summer signing’s incredible influence justifies major investment FC Barcelona had initially not planned to strengthen their midfield during the summer transfer window. Both Hansi Flick and Deco believed they already had enough players to cope with the demands of the season. However, an unexpected market opportunity emerged with Rodri. Real Madrid were interested in signing the midfielder , but Rodri, who wanted to leave Manchester City, preferred a move to Barça. The Catalan club’s sporting department therefore moved quickly to bring him to Camp Nou. It was not a straightforward deal. Negotiations with Manchester City were difficult, but the clubs eventually reached an agreement worth €60 million plus add-ons. An excellent investment After two months into the new season, there is little doubt that Rodri’s arrival has been a success and that Barcelona’s the investment has been money well spent. He controlled the match and dictated the tempo, adjusting the rhythm of Barça’s play to suit the demands of each moment. Rodri’s passing ability has been particularly impressive. Not only did he excel against Getafe, but his performances throughout the league campaign have also been remarkably consistent. The Spain captain has completed 489 passes in La Liga in seven games, with an accuracy rate of 94.5%. He also contributes defensively, frequently recovering possession himself when he loses the ball, having racked up 33 recoveries and 25 duels won. He did so twice against Getafe, demonstrating how quickly he can respond and help Barcelona regain control. A leader. They regularly look to Rodri when building attacks, knowing that giving him the ball is one of the most reliable ways to retain possession and keep the team in control. A leader on and off the pitch Rodri’s value to Barcelona extends beyond his performances on the pitch. He has also established himself as a leader in the dressing room. Despite having only recently arrived, his influence on his teammates is already considerable, particularly among the younger players, who regard the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner as an experienced figure from whom they can learn. His composure, understanding of the game and ability to manage difficult situations make him an important presence within the squad. With winning the Champions League representing Barcelona’s principal objective this season, Rodri’s experience could prove invaluable. The veteran superstar’s arrival has given Flick a midfielder capable of controlling matches, supporting his team-mates and providing the leadership required to compete for the biggest prizes.
