Lille considering legal action after their star suffers horrific injury

Lille considering legal action after their star suffers horrific injury Lille are considering legal action after the horrific injury sustained by Tiago Santos during Saturday’s home match against Le Havre. Santos was carried off on a stretcher having damaged his anterior cruciate ligament and suffered a tear of the meniscus in his right knee. The 24-year-old picked up the injury from a dangerous tackle by Amir Richardson in the first half. The referee gave a foul but the Le Havre midfielder did not receive a yellow or red card for the challenge. Lille are furious with the decision that should have been a straight red because it was made ‘from behind, uncontrolled and in a dangerous manner’. The Ligue 1 club said they have asked the French professional league to refer the incident to the disciplinary committee. They want an explanation why the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) did not intervene to correct the decision. Lille’s statement read : “Lille are examining all possible legal avenues and reserve the right to take any legal action necessary to obtain compensation for their losses.” The injury comes as a big blow for Lille who face Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday. Santos started all seven games across all competitions this season, helping his team climb to second in Ligue 1 . He also scored two goals. But the latest injury means the Portuguese will likely be out of action for several months.
