£80m star is now Liverpool's 'prime target'

£80m star is now Liverpool's 'prime target' The transfer window may be shut but, that doesn't mean Liverpool can't be linked with new players. The Anfield outfit still have an awful lot of upgrades that they need to make among their ranks before they're classed as genuine title challengers again. Up until Sunday, the Anfield outfit were unbeaten across all competitions but, after Manchester City pummelled them 3-0, it's clear that the Reds aren't ready for the title fight yet. Finishing in the top four and getting further than the round of 16 in the Champions League are likely to be their main goals this term. But, to help them towards this goal, some new signings will obviously need to be made. Many different players have been linked with a switch over the last few months but now, the Reds' "prime target" has been revealed. Alex Scott is Liverpool's "prime target" Liverpool's midfield is one of their main problem areas at the moment. Ryan Gravenberch is now suspended for a few games and, since Dominik Szobsozlai missed Sunday's clash against Manchester City due to how much football he's been playing recently, Andoni Iraola is down to his last two central midfielders. Alexis Mac Allister and Trey Nyoni have both performed fairly well this term and, while Szoboszlai is likely to be back in action soon, it still feels like Iraola's centre of the park needs some work doing to it. Many different options have been presented to Liverpool for them to explore but now, according to an update from Ekrem Konur, the Reds now have a "prime target" in their sights. "Both Arsenal and Liverpool are stepping up their pursuit of Bournemouth star midfielder Alex Scott ahead of a major summer battle," he shared via X . "Both Premier League heavyweights have identified the midfielder as a prime target to bolster their engine rooms. "With Bournemouth pushing hard for European success, the club has firmly ruled out a mid-season departure in January. "Entering the final year of his contract next summer with no renewal in sight, a blockbuster transfer before the 2027-28 season looks increasingly likely!" Alex Scott is the perfect player for Liverpool to target It's clear to see that Liverpool have a couple of problems among their squad. Of course, the players are still getting used to Iraola and, since four new players were brought in during the summer transfer window, the players are probably still trying to get used to how one another plays. And, while new faces would certainly improve the quality of the team, it would take the Reds even longer to get adjusted. However, if Liverpool sign someone who has plenty of Premier League experience and already knows Iraola's system by heart, then that could be a match made in heaven. This is why the Anfield outfit signing Alex Scott makes sense . The fact that Scott is also homegrown would be a massive help to Liverpool as, at the moment, they've ran out of non-homegrown spots among their squad. Obviously, since top-class homegrown players are hard to come by, there's often a premium chucked on top of their actual value and, while £80 million is an awful lot of money for a 23-year-old, he's definitely the best option Liverpool have.
