Taylor wants Exeter to build on upturn in form
Matt Taylor has led Exeter to back-to-back league wins for just the second time this year [Shutterstock] Exeter City manager Matt Taylor has urged his side to build on their good recent form which has seen them win back-to-back league games for the first time since January. Having beaten Rotherham United 1-0 at St James Park earlier this month, they won 1-0 at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, their first victory away from home since 24 January. "When you win games of football everything feels more positive around the training ground, in the changing room, around the city I suppose, in the community," Taylor told BBC Radio Devon. "But we can't rest on that, we can't be satisfied with it in any way, we feel it's a moment now to really build on." Cox helps Exeter get rare away win It has been a big turnaround for Taylor's inexperienced side, who had previously won just one of their first eight games after relegation from League Two. But despite their poor early results, Exeter's four losses in that time all came by a one-goal margin as City struggled to convert chances. "In each game, we've been in the game and it's been fine margins, there's never been more than one goal split apart from the home win against Accrington, which seems so long ago right now," Taylor said. "But we're finding our feet, we're finding form, we're finding rhythm. "Certainly within the transfer window it was a difficult situation to manage, I think anyone could understand that, and the players moving out have probably alluded to that as well in some capacity, and then the stress of trying to get players in last minute and being reactive. "So it's certainly been a challenge but one I've enjoyed. "But you only enjoy winning football and you only enjoy it when your team's functioning the way you want it to." 'There's an awful lot more to come' Exeter City's players have seen an upturn in form in recent weeks [Shutterstock] Exeter's recent good form has seen them move up from 21st, one point above the relegation places, to 14th - three points off the play-off spots and five clear of the drop zone. "I feel we're moving in the right direction, we're nowhere near where we want to be just yet, but moving in the right direction," Taylor added. "All of a sudden we're in a mid-pack in the table where two games ago we were towards the bottom. "Now we're in a mid-pack where we're still close enough to the bottom end, but we're also within touching distance of the teams above us and who haven't gone a long way away from us despite our start. "So it's a lot of points to be played for and I'm content, but with the knowledge that there's an awful lot more to come." Listen to Exeter City content on BBC Sounds
