Andoni Iraola is about to save Liverpool with brilliant midfield transfer
Andoni Iraola is about to save Liverpool with brilliant midfield transfer Andoni Iraola still has a lot of work to do at Liverpool. The head coach may have been appointed after Arne Slot was sacked but, Liverpool's problems didn't just disappear thanks to his arrival. Admittedly, things were looking up before the international break with the Anfield outfit unbeaten across all competitions. However, Sunday's 3-0 defeat against Manchester City was their toughest clash of the season and, thanks to Ryan Gravenberch's sending off, they got battered. Sunday's defeat proved that many more additions need to be made to Andoni Iraola's first-team squad before they're ready to compete for the Premier League title again and, now, that looks like exactly what they're going to do. Liverpool want to agree a deal for Nico Paz Although the Reds' double pivot needs working on, their number 10 hasn't been much better. Florian Wirtz has taken most of the responsibility and, for the £116 million that Liverpool paid for him, fans were expecting a lot more. Of course, the manager and system change probably haven't helped the German find his feet this term but, with how poorly he's performed, it's now being questioned whether he was even worth Liverpool buying at all. Many different attackers are now being linked with a Liverpool switch to try and add some extra firepower to their ranks. And, while a lot of them would be useful, none would be as important of a signing as Nico Paz from Como . "Therefore, it's safe to assume that Liverpool (and the other Como clubs) will be carefully considering midfield options, perhaps Maximo Perrone and Lucas da Cunha, and Martin Baturina and Nico Paz in the attacking midfield," they wrote. "The Merseyside club's firepower in the transfer market is well known, and Liverpool will continue to invest in January and the summer. And who knows, perhaps today's match will yield some interesting ideas." Nico Paz would help get Liverpool's attack back to their best With Liverpool's attack consisting of Bradley Barcola, Wirtz and Alexander Isak , you'd have thought that they wouldn't need any more firepower. However, with Isak and Cody Gakpo both out injured, Liverpool have clearly lost their spark with Wirtz also barely offering anything. Paz is a number 10 by trade but, during his time with Cesc Fabregas at Como, he's played as an attacking midfielder, a striker and a right-winger. In that time, he's played 82 games has has contributed to 40 goals with his performances leading Fabregas' men to their first ever Champions League run. The vast majority of Como's team are wanted by clubs from across the world but, of the lot, Paz is definitely the outlier. Without the Argentinian, Como would be nowhere near as good as they are so, their thought process of spending £60 million on him was well backed-up. Indeed, since that deal only went through in the summer, it would require a lot more to prise him away but, if Liverpool can do that, Iraola would almost certainly be able to save their season and get back into the top four.
