On-loan Barcelona defender’s agent dismisses rumours of permanent Premier League move: ‘Unfounded rumours’

On-loan Barcelona defender’s agent dismisses rumours of permanent Premier League move: ‘Unfounded rumours’ On-loan Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo’s agent, Edoardo Crnjar, has dismissed claims that Liverpool are reconsidering a permanent transfer. Araujo joined Liverpool on loan from Barcelona last summer, with the deal including a €55 million purchase option for next summer.  After his strong start to the 2026/27 season, there were reports that the Reds were considering activating the clause, but Crnjar has rejected that speculation. Asked about the rumours (h/t SPORT ), the agent was unequivocal, stating, “They are unfounded rumours.” The statement makes clear that there is no confirmed change in Liverpool’s position, while Araujo is happy at Anfield and has received no indication that the club has altered its plans. His performances have been particularly significant in the right-back position, where Liverpool have been seeking greater stability.  His defensive strength, physical presence and experience at the highest level have helped him make a strong impression during the opening weeks of Iraola’s tenure. The €55 million option, worth approximately £47 million, would allow Liverpool to secure Araujo’s services permanently without negotiating an entirely new transfer agreement, subject to the terms of the loan deal. However, the final decision will also depend on Liverpool’s recruitment plans and how the defender performs over the remainder of the season. Kounde transfer could depend on Araujo decision Liverpool are also interested in Jules Kounde. Reports suggest Liverpool’s interest in Kounde may depend on whether they activate Araujo’s purchase option.  If the Uruguayan continues to impress and the Reds make his move permanent, they are expected to drop their pursuit of the French international. That would make sense from a squad-building perspective, as securing Araujo could reduce the need for another expensive defensive signing.  From Barcelona’s viewpoint, both Araujo and Kounde are players who can bring in significant profit, but losing both would require a major defensive overhaul.
