‘It’s about the performance’ – Aston Villa’s interim boss Sørensen on target for next block

‘It’s about the performance’ – Aston Villa’s interim boss Sørensen on target for next block Aston Villa’s interim head coach Brian Sørensen says that the focus is on improving performances in the next block of matches. The Villans contest nine fixtures in league and cup between now and the next international window. The Midlands side will be eager to climb the Barclays Women’s Super League table in the coming weeks. When speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Liverpool, Aston Villa’s interim boss Sørensen said that the target is to improve performances. “The aim is to put better performances together,” Sørensen said. “We want to look ourselves in the eyes as a team and as a collective and know that we’ve done everything possible to get the three points. This is the main message from me and what we’ve been talking about, it’s about the performance. We need to be better at that and that’s what our aim is.” Going on to discuss opponents Liverpool, Sørensen sees a side that are really progressing under head coach Gareth Taylor. He said “You can definitely see that he has been there for a while now and the club have been patient with him. They’ve made sure that they can put the right procedures and structures in place and it looks like a Gareth Taylor team. I played against him a lot when he was at Manchester City and they are even more dynamic. Of course, I also played him last year with Everton. “They’ve found the way that they want to do stuff and they’re doing that collectively very well. They are very well coached and I am not surprised with their performances. They’ve signed smart and brought in good players in key positions that can elevate the team. “Overall, they have probably deserved a few more points, but performance-wise, I think they are where they want to be.” This weekend’s fixture takes place at Keys Park in Hednesford rather than at Villa Park. Sørensen is looking forward to the occasion in very different surroundings. He said “I like playing at both venues, but of course, I also love the atmosphere that it creates at Keys Park. “I like both stadiums. We are trying to get more crowds at the big one, but it’s nice to have another venue where we can create intensity around the game and so on. “I like playing at both places. The pitch is unreal at Keys Park, so that’s really nice.” Aston Villa’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Liverpool kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
