Antonio Conte open to Man United move as pressure mounts on Michael Carrick
Antonio Conte open to Man United move as pressure mounts on Michael Carrick Antonio Conte would be willing to take charge of Manchester United if the club sacks Michael Carrick, talkSPORT reports. United are going through one of the worst starts in their history after collecting just six points from their opening six Premier League games and sit 13th in the table. The Red Devils have won just one of their last seven games in all competitions and are currently going through a five-match winless streak (D2, L3). Their recent form has only added pressure on Carrick. United were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham Hotspur despite leading and having a numerical advantage, before losing 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. These performances have increased the likelihood of Carrick losing his job in the coming weeks if results don’t improve, especially with a potential replacement already lined up. According to talkSPORT, the Italian’s representatives have told United he’s interested in the position if Carrick is dismissed. Conte has plenty of Premier League experience after spells at Chelsea and Tottenham. He won the league and FA Cup with Chelsea and helped Spurs maintain their place in the top end of English football. He also guided Napoli to the Serie A title in the 2024/25 season before leaving the Italian club earlier this year after finishing second behind Inter Milan. Conte has always been open to returning to the Premier League, making him a potential option if United decide to change managers. However, he is not the only name being considered. Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler is admired by United’s hierarchy, while Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has also been linked with the position. Carrick’s position is also threatened by growing frustration among his players over the club’s summer transfer business. Lisandro Martinez made his feelings clear after the defeat to Atletico, criticising United’s leadership for failing to bring in enough players to strengthen the squad. The Argentina international also suggested that senior figures at the club needed to take more responsibility, and he reportedly has the support of several experienced teammates.
